FedEx establishes a direct agency in Nigeria to support local customers in developing international trade
FedEx, a subsidiary of the Federal Express Group (New York Stock Exchange: FDX) and one of the world's largest express transportation companies, announced that it has established a direct commercial establishment in Nigeria to meet the country's growing international transportation needs.
The establishment of FedEx's direct subsidiaries has enabled Nigerian businesses and customers to now access more FedEx transportation solutions. Meanwhile, FedEx's local service provider, Red Star Express Plc, will continue to provide infrastructure support for ground operations.
Nigerian customers can also use a series of FedEx digital tools through www.fedex.com to make transportation simpler and more efficient. This includes opening a new account, tracking the status of shipments, creating transportation air waybills, arranging courier pick-up, and managing bills. In addition, FedEx will arrange a dedicated sales and customer technical team to interact with local customers and provide better logistics expertise to help local enterprises move internationally.
Nigeria is the largest and fastest-growing economy in Africa. The African Development Bank predicts that the average economic growth rate of the country will reach 3.2% between 2022 and 2023.
Taarek Hinedi, Vice President of FedEx Middle East and Africa Operations, said, "Today, we are closer to our customers than ever before. This strategic step makes it easier for local businesses to utilize our transportation services when seeking more import and export opportunities and developing customers globally
Hinedi also stated that "Nigeria is on the right path to further development, and FedEx is committed to supporting local development and connecting Nigeria with some of its largest trading partners in Asia and Europe. FedEx's network is crucial for providing businesses with stronger connections between Africa and Europe, as well as Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) Internal freight connections within the region are crucial. As Nigeria continues to implement its 2021-2025 national development plan to increase its share of exports to Africa from a base of 20% to 35% [2], businesses will need a range of international services and solutions to support economic growth
